It’s the first day of May. Which….*drum roll please*….means the beginning of National Masturbation Month. In 1995 Good Vibrations began celebrating to raise awareness. This began after the Surgeon General at the time (Dr. Joycelyn Elders) was fired for saying that masturbation should be discussed as part of young peoples’ sex education.
Why Masturbate? Why Masturbate-a-thon?
Despite great strides in sex-positive education, masturbation for many remains a taboo subject.
They believe:
- Masturbation is the safest sex.
- More masturbation means more sexual self-awareness.
- Masturbation with a partner can be educational and hot.
Myths about masturbation-
- Masturbation is something you do when you’re young, but then grow out of. (70-95% of adult men/women masturbate)
- Masturbation isn’t ‘real sex’; it’s only for people who can’t find a partner.
- Masturbation is something men have to do, but women don’t “need” to. (statistics do show that men do masturbate more than women. BUT social attitudes towards female masturbation are a lot more negative)
- People in relationships don’t masturbate (basically every survey taken- whether that be Playboy or Redbook…say that way more married men masturbate than women, but a really high percentage (something like an average of 60% of women do)
- Too much masturbation is bad for you. (duh. If it is a part of a balanced sexual and social life, it poses on specific risks)
- Only certain kinds of people masturbate. (ok, so survey research shows that whether you are 19 or 99, religious and conservative or secular and liberal, no matter who you are or what stage of life you are in…almost everyone has masturbated at some point in their lives!)
WHY Masturbate-
- Because masturbation is immensely pleasurable, invigorating, rejuvenating and fun.
- Because sexual pleasure is each person’s birthright.
- Because masturbation is the ultimate safe sex.
- Because masturbation is a joyous expression of self love.
- Because masturbation offers numerous health benefits including menstrual cramp relief, stress reduction, endorphin release, stronger pelvic muscles, reduction of prostate gland infection for men and resistance to yeast infections for women.
- Because masturbation is an excellent cardiovascular workout.
- Because each person is their own best lover.
- Because masturbation with a partner can be educational and hot.
- Because masturbation increases sexual awareness.
Masturbate-a-thon will be on May 2 this year, it’s their 9th annual. They promise the event to be fun and easy place for participants to jack or jill off (~giggle~ ….yes, they actually say that…).
The event takes place every year in San Francisco. You can buy a ticket to come (haha, pun intended) as a spectator. Spectators and voyeurs are welcome. But it struck me as interesting that it only costs $15 for females and transgenders BUT $40 for MEN (non-trans) who want to attend unaccompanied. Huh. Bummer if you are a man and not transgendered. Never thought you would be penalized for that did ya?! LOL
Anyways. If you have nothing better to do tomorrow….. ~wink~

Have a completely stunning weekend!
