This has been a bad animal week for me. And granted we live on a farm in the country. It’s to be expected that there will most likely always be something going on.
We have a serious fox problem. I know I’ve mentioned it on other occasions. It occurs in the spring and the fall mostly. In the last three years I think I have lost *fifteen* chickens. It’s ridiculous. Finally last fall we curbed the problem by locking them in the hen house at night. Cool.
Until he struck at two-thirty in the afternoon on Wednesday and killed four of my five remaining chickens. Not to eat them mind you. But just for the sport of it. Mother FUCKER. WTH!? Well. *sigh* It’s been discussed. I kept saying no. Ok. I’m sold. Go buy the damn gun and shoot the fucker. Grrr….. So we now are the proud owners of a pellet gun….. and 7 new chicks.
Poor Olivia is my only remaining chicken. She is also the oldest. The kiddos and I hand raised her 4 years ago. PC says her theme song should be “I Will Survive”. Doh. And my ducks are ok. I *LOVE* our
ducks.
After speaking with a neighbor come to find out maybe we aren’t doing so bad. They had over fifty chickens and are now down to less then ten…but in like a month time frame. As well as two of their cats. They have been hit by this same fox several times mid day. He has no fear and is ballsy. After he murdered our chickens, he sauntered off all smug. Fucker. Anyway. While I feel badly for our neighbors, it’s good to have someone to commiserate with. And to know they are on the hunt for the same fox. As well as other neighbors who have lost ducks, geese, chickens, cats and even a small dog. It’s become unsafe. If the fox has become bold enough to hit mid day, it’s only a matter of time before he snags one of our little dogs.
Yeah. He needs to go. PC hit him first try Thursday when the ass tried to hit again mid day. He wasn’t killed though. Wish us luck, we’re on the war path….

Hope everyone has a fantabulous Easter weekend. It feels as if it took Easter FOREVER to get here this year! Don’t forget to check back for this weekend’s edition of “Where’s Ronald“. (haha!)

There were just a BUNCH of fabulous HNTs this week – I’m not sure how you narrowed it down to five, but you did pick some of my favorites!
Sorry about the chickens … damn fox!

I want to see you in full fox hunting gear!

Beautiful, beautiful images – as always. How do you find them? I hope you get the fox (and that is has a quick exit).

Thank you, sweetie! It’s always flattering to be picked.
Um…Os…you do know that “fox hunting” involves horses and hounds, and not guns, right? *LOL* Not that I would *ever* pass on an opportunity to see Vixen in full hunt gear. In fact, I’d mail her mine, but seeing as it’s now all too big for me, it would just fall right off of her.
Um…heh…I’ll send it after all. What was I thinking?
Anyway, here’s to hoping the next shot does the trick. Blow that bastard away!

*hugs* I sooo sorry about your chickens. I hope you get the problem solved soon.
I use to hand raise chickens too. My “survivor” was Amanda. I lost mine to a neighbor’s dog. The damn neighbor just thought the dog was being a dog. *sigh*
Oh, and hot, hot, smokin hot pics and picks!
Have a beautiful weekend, Vixen.

Happy Easter! I vote for Biscuit. That’s really odd behaviour for a fox. Probably an orphan, and possibly diseased.
Did you do a Vixen Poll on guns once?
Regardless, you need something more serious than a freaking pellet-gun. And not just for foxes. Heck, a freaking sling-shot is more serious than a pellet gun.

Good Afternoon Vixen,
Your shots from yesterday were absolutely great!
Troll brings up 2 good points:
Vixen Says:At a minimum you should be using the 22 caliber, instead of buying a gun maybe you could borrow one from a neighbor.
The fox maybe rapid, I would assume that it was until proven otherwise.

Biscuit- LOL! ;)

Chef Troll- yes I did. And what I determined was PC could have an air rifle. That is about the extent that I am comfortable at this point.
The one he has is actually quite powerful. He did research on the one he bought. I have faith we’ll be ok. :)
Vixen Says:April 10th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Karl- I’d actually rather my neighbors keep their guns so they can keep trying to get the fox too. ;)
PC Says:April 10th, 2009 at 11:17 am
I’m actually fine with the pellet gun. But I do wish I would have got the .22. I found a semi-automatic .22 that fires at a pretty fast rate. The one I’ve got is really powerful, but it’s only a single shot. I’ve got one shot per encounter.

We had a fox problem when we had our chickens, ducks and turkeys too. He was very distructive to my flock.
Gorgeous women this week.
Happy Easter.
