Belly button? Toes? Va-jay-jay? The most popular being butt implants and labiaplasty. The new ‘extreme’ surgeries- or as some doctors have dubbed them “Fashion Surgeries”, are becoming more popular. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 1,030 “vaginal rejuvenations” were done in 2006. A 30% increase from the year earlier. The number of butt implants rose 18% in the same time frame.
Some women do have good reason to seek these nips and tucks. An elongated labia, for example, can make even a brisk walk uncomfortable- let alone sex. Or if there is an aesthetic issue that is crushing a woman’s confidence, surgery can be a legitimate option. Although men polled by Glamour magazine when asked if there is such a thing as an ‘ugly vagina’, the consensus was *NO*! But for the most part plastic surgery has raised the ‘beauty bar’ to an impossible standard. (According to Ann Kearney-Cooke, Ph.D, coauthor of “Change Your Mind, Change your Body”)
“Looking ‘normal’ is no longer the norm. There’s pressure to be perfect from head to toe- literally!- and women feel the smallest perceived imperfection needs to be fixed”
That combined with the mind set among doctors of someone’s going to do the surgery, so it might as well be them. Doctors note having to fix many a ‘botched’ procedure bc a women went to a less qualified/less reputable dr.
My opinion…. Unless I was having a serious issue like mentioned above, where say walking was even uncomfortable- I’m pretty sure I don’t want one of those areas (most esp my va-jay-jay!) messed with surgically. I think you can go ‘too far’ with the plastic surgery and trying to ‘pretty up’ areas like belly buttons….butts and va-jay-jays…..too far, IMHO, for me anyways.
All this said. Is this type of surgery something you would ever consider? Men, if there were a surgery for you to ‘enhance’ your man-parts, would it be something you would consider??? Would you want your partner (male or female) to look into one of these type of extreme/fashion surgeries? What do you think about these procedures?

Interesting topic, since I’ve often wondered who in the world is getting these surgeries. I understand the butt implants and find them comparable to breast implants, although I wonder if they feel funny to sit on. Now, at least to me, the belly button and vagina are a bit of a different story. I understand if, as in your intro, there was an actual problem that made life less pleasant or more uncomfortable, but outside of that I don’t even know what a “perfect” vagina looks like, so how would I know if I got a good one…

I’m pretty confident I wouldn’t be on the list to get labiaplasty done. Nor would I get my belly button worked on or even butt implants. My butt has a hard enough time fitting into my jeans without implants.
I’m just not a fan of cosmetic surgery except in extreme cases. It has become something that people immediately jump to as a cure all– kinda like steroids. Again, I’m not talking about every situation. I’m talking about a shift in trends.
Having said all that, I suppose people have the right to do this. When it comes to discussions of personal rights, I’m much more comfortable with someone exercising this right than some others.
For me, I’m pretty content with my parts. A long time ago, I wanted to get calf implants. My calves were pretty non-existent and no matter how much I worked them, they never got better. Well, I really like my calves now. But it took a lot of work.

While I wouldn’t consider surgery THERE for cosmetic reasons alone, it’s hard for me, having had plastic surgery myself, to knock someone else for doing it.
I was *really* unhappy with the way my breasts looked after two kids, and I didn’t think there was any reason why I should have to be unhappy with them for the rest of my life. So, if one’s girly bits cause them to be self-conscious for some reason, go for it.

I agree with Curious Me. I would never get butt implants, but do find them comparable to boob implants. The other stuff – no way unless it was hurting me!
Professor Fate Says:I would love lipo, but the very thought scares me to death. Ugh. I’ll have to do it the good ol’ fashioned way – work for it!

I worked with these Docs for a while. One of them joked that when his schedule became completely full, he took a month off and raised his prices.
I don’t understand the vanity that drives some women (and I guess some men) to plastic surgery.
I know several women who had breast augmentation but didn’t get the personality augmentation that would allow them to carry the new set of tits with confidence.

No, for me. No, for my partner. Frankly, I find a lot of the “conventional” plastic surgeries done to be either unnecessary or grotesque.
TUG Says:May 20th, 2009 at 10:47 am
I’m of the school to leave nature alone unless for the reasons you gave.
However, I understand what having kids can do to a woman and I’ll never argue with a woman who wants a tummy tuck or boobie surgery to help get back to a pre-kid body.
I do wish there was a way to convince women with smaller breasts that most of us men think they are pretty regardless, we like them natural and to not get the surgery. Though I do understand the self confidence issue from today’s society that may cause a woman to do this. I’ll never argue, just state my opinion :)
For me, there is nothing I’d do to myself. I’d like bigger arms but genitics didn’t allow for that regardless of how much I go to the gym. And I think surgery would look stupid.

I’m with Biscuit on this one. I really do believe that cosmetic surgery can be over done, but if I had a significant self-esteem issue with my lady bits, I’d consider it!
Hell, if I had an extra $15K sitting around I’d take care of a tummy-tuck and breast lift. Who am I to judge?
Vixen Says:May 20th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Dana- I’m def not going to judge anyone for getting it done. One of my favorite shows is Dr. 90210 and there are some very interesting things people will get done to themselves.
I guess I was more curious other people’s opinions on it and if anyone here would consider it.
Vixen Says:May 20th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
TUG- I understand breast implants, tummy tucks, etc…but less a fan of people getting implants for their arms, calves, etc. But just bc I wouldn’t do it doesn’t mean I mind someone else. :)
And I agree with you, someone else’s self esteem/confidence issues are not always understood. But they aren’t for us to understand.
Vixen Says:May 20th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Curious Me- LOL! I know right?! What exactly *does* a ‘perfect’ va-jay-jay look like!?!? But I do understand making it ‘different’ for comfort reasons.
Vixen Says:May 20th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
PC- I’m pretty sure you def are NOT a good candidate for labiaplasty. *snort* Your ass is perfect, no butt implants for you ;)
Vixen Says:May 20th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Professor- that is surprising….most women I know how go through with breast augmentation usually grow in confidence.
Hubman Says:May 20th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
After 2 pregnancies and breast-feeding both for about 8 or 9 months, ASM has expressed a desire to have her boobs done, which I’d support (no pun intended!).
I totally *don’t* get these other surgeries like implants in seemingly random areas or “fixing” a vajayjay.
For me? Heck no, I’m perfect! *snort*
Another Suburban Mom Says:May 20th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I personally think that my ladybits look lovely and have yet to have a complaint from anyone that has been allowed an all access pass.
However if there was a surgery that could restore the inner workings of my lady bits to their virginal beginnings, I am all for that!
