This bread cooks up golden brown, is yummy and super easy to make (BONUS!!)!  The kiddos beg me to make this at least once a week.  It can go along perfectly with pretty much any meal (another bonus!). The fabulous thing about this bread is that the beer acts as the yeast and because of the bit of honey has a delicious touch of sweetness.  It's a dense and filling bread.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1 can/bottle Beer
  • ΒΌ cup  Butter, melted

A slight variance of this same recipe, not as sweet but just as yummy:

  • olive oil for baking pan (to prepare the pan with instead of cooking spray)
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 12-ounce bottle beer, preferably ale
  • flour for the work surface
  • 1 cup chopped or torn fresh basil (dry will do if it's your only option)

Directions:

1.  Preheat oven to 350F. Prepare a loaf pan with cooking spray.  Set aside. 2.  In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. 3.  Using a wooden spoon, stir the beer and honey into the dry ingredients until just mixed.  (If you microwave the honey for 5 to 10 seconds beforehand it makes it easier to stir in) The batter will be very thin- that's ok! 4.  Pour half of the melted butter into the loaf pan. Spoon the batter into the pan, then pour the rest of the butter on top of the batter. 5.  Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.  (I always check at least 10minutes before)
Ta-da! Enjoy! ~ xo Vixen
