This week has killed me.  The term ‘hussle and bustle of the holidays’ would apply to me for sure.  I know the whole “Gosh it was just Thanksgiving and Christmas is already here!” is what everyone says.  But when I say it- literally, it’s how I feel.

There is a process to ‘Christmas-time’ for me. (which as OCD as I am, should surprise no one here, I mean- duh).  It’s methodical and everything happens under a certain timeline beginning with Thanksgiving weekend-

• The tree goes up
• House is decorated- inside and out
• Christmas Cards are made and ordered
• Christmas lists begin being made and added to
• Presents start being ordered and bought.
• Christmas cards are addressed and sent out.
• An entire weekend is spent baking with the kiddos- usually 3 different type of cookies, several different flavors fudge, numerous loaves of Pumpkin breads, other Christmas goodies are made, cookies are frosted….
• All of the baked goods are divided out among cookie tins, goody bags, platters, containers to go to the various teachers, neighbors, friends, family.
• The kiddos and I assemble elaborate Gingerbread Houses.
• Presents are wrapped.
• Last minute stocking stuffers are bought.
• Finally quiches are made for Christmas morning.

Ok, so you get the idea.

Now.  This year, the tree was put up Thanksgiving weekend.  Ok.  Right.  But then…  Nothing has fallen into place as it usually does past that.  Lights wouldn’t work outside…  The Christmas card orders had one snag after another (I still haven’t received one of them, I won’t even get into the level of bitchiness that has created).  The flu.  THAT certainly didn’t help jack shit.  The weekend that baking would have taken place I was recovering from being sick, kiddos are whisked away for fun times at Disney on Ice by their grandpa, PC and I had an important Christmas party to attend.  Shopping will happen next week.  No worries….lists are at least made. 

Did I mention school is dismissed for Holiday break this Friday?  And that the kiddos are spending six days with their grandparents beginning Sunday so that I won’t see them again until Christmas Eve???? (this pains me terribly…I am missing them already)

So….that has left ONE week to get EVERYFUCKINGTHING done.  (which is now gone)

Gah……

Last year I was busy cooking, in preparation for Thanksgiving.  This year I am responsible for less of the cooking.  Probably will participate more in doing the dishes and drinking of wine….  Ok ok, definitely more so in the drinking of the wine. *grins*

Vixen’s neurosis #69: I can not, absolutely will not, do dishes with out wearing rubber gloves. Just like I dislike drinking beer in a can with out a Coozie (oh the crap I get over that one…..doh), I can not do dishes with out gloves. I HATE the way the soap makes my hands feel afterwards. The thought makes me *cringe*….

Good thing this isn’t an audio blog….my insanely sore throat decided to turn into a cough and by the time I woke up Thursday morning my voice had completely escaped me.  I’ve been battling with allergy-ish symptoms for over two weeks now.  Began wondering towards the middle of this week if the ridiculous soreness in my throat might actually be something more significant than allergies.  I think the laryngitis I am now experiencing is a pretty good indicator.  *sigh*

Thank you all for your kind words and support the beginning of this week.  I’m doing much better emotionally.  The shock has subsided.  My head is in a better space and I’m thinking more clearly.

Well. I was until I decided to take some OTC meds to try help alleviate aforementioned symptoms.  Didn’t do much for my symptoms but made me loopier than hell and wide fucking awake and an ungodly hour.  Gah….  There is a very good reason I don’t do drugs.  So there you go.  That’s all I got.

This was brought up right before Christmas but I didn’t have the time to post it in time for the holidays.  It’s still an interesting topic though and am interested on your views.

Jen and Nate have been married for three years.  Every year for the holidays they go out of state to visit Jen’s family.  She has a big family with many traditions and they are quite strict about adhering to them.  One of them is that even though Jen and Nate are married, they sleep in separate beds/bedrooms the entire time they are visiting her parents.

Bc of the amount of people staying in the house and all the different holiday activities, Jen and Nate get to spend very little time together during these visits.  Nate wanted to get a hotel this year so that they could have some one on one time and while it might be very busy during they day, he would at least get to spend some time with his wife at night.  This is his only vacation that he will get to take this year and he would like to enjoy it.  Jen says he’s being selfish and only wants sex and that is why he is pushing for the hotel.  Not only is she annoyed at his ‘selfishness’ (her words), she is really worried this will break her parents heart.  That they are elderly and really look forward to having the entire family together, in their family home, for the holidays.

What’s the solution?  Should Nate suck it up and spend the holidays sleeping alone to appease his wife and IL’s?

My opinion- I feel as if they should talk with Jen’s parents.  Let them know that this is Nate’s only vacation (I do feel that this is an important point) and they would like to both enjoy it but having to sleep separately bothers them.  I think I would present it as a choice to the parents- ask if they can share a bedroom and if that isn’t feasible then they will want to stay in a hotel room.  It may sound like an ultimatium but I don’t blame Nate one bit.  He goes to stay with Jen’s family every year for holidays, this is something he does for her, bc he knows how much she enjoys being with her family. Admittantly, he loves many of their traditional ways too.  I think it’s perfectly fine for them to request this of Jen’s parents and if they aren’t willing to bend on their rule, then yes, book a hotel room.  I can’t imagine going on vacation with my husband and not getting to snuggle/sleep with him every night.

I offer this advice for someone no longer in my life. 

I rarely see this person.  I have next to no contact with them.  But we are forever tied by two precious entities.  I have made mistakes in my life. I have taken roads possibly I shouldn’t have.  Wished I’d made different, better choices for myself.  I could harbor animosity and anger over a great number of things.  From the past and the present….concerning this person.

But I don’t.

I know I said CQW would be back this week but fuck if I’m not feeling run ragged and stressed.  We have done SO much driving and running around since the kids got out of school last week.  Children transporters extraordinaire. 

Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed the holiday.  I always do.  But now with New Years just around the corner and extravagant plans having been made….it seems one of the many things that I’m not finding time for is Blogland (my OCD is in massive overdrive and I’m putting so many things aside which only makes my OCD *worse*).  I appologize to my friends who’s blogs I haven’t been by, I miss you all.  So rather than post something I know I won’t have time to follow up on or respond to (which I like to do with CQW in particular), I will postpone the topic for next week.  Tune in for HNT though!  One more theme- Year End Favorite.  Followed by a special Year End Friday Favorites!

The Last of ’09 Edition: I did the questions this week, don’t bag on ‘em too much. (LOL)

1. On a scale of 1-10, how good was your 2009?
8?  Started out um…rocky.  I’d say first half was a bit stressful, but definitely improved and we’re going out with a bang.  :)

2. What are your favorite/naughtiest/sexiest/most fun 2009 memories?
Roxy’s hot tub parties…..  Oh!  Roxy’s birthday wkend!  MY birthday party at Coyote Ugly! (WOOT!)
Hehe….we’re so bad.

3. What’s the one thing you thought you would never do, but did in 2009?
I’m sure it would be along the lines of something(s) I agreed to that I never thought I would.  *ahemPCknowswhatI’mtalkingaboutahem*

4. What do you want to change in 2010?
I’d like to find that special girl ‘friend’ *winkwink*
In all seriousness, it’s hard for me to try to focus on things I’d like to change.  I really try to roll with things, my favorite motto is “It is what it is”.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t strive for better, for improvement, OF COURSE you should.  But to dwell on what sucked, where does that get you?!

5. What is your all-time favorite gift (whether given or received by you)?
My engagement ring.  It was my dream come true and I was completely taken off guard.

Bonus (as in optional): On special holidays- like birthdays, anniversaries, ringing in the New Year, -are you more inclined to do a sex act that you wouldn’t “normally” do? (things like fellatio/cunnilingus, anal sex, strap-ons/toys, videoing yourself/pictures, menage-a-trois/quatres, etc.)
Yes.  And I firmly belived everyone should have sex of some kind on their birthday!  I gave PC a nice surprise for his bday two years back involving a strap on.  *evil grins*

So….  The kids and I managed to finish all our baking AND frosted all the cookies AND got them divied up into appropriate containers to go to the right people.  Huge relief off my shoulders.  And it was all done with minimal fighting/kiddo issues.  Mission completed with patience in tact.  Awesome.

We did our time standing in line to see Avatar in IMAX 3D and was totally not disappointed.  Incredible movie!  Unfortunately we had to see a late showing and LM fell asleep near the end.  Which sucked bc he really was enjoying it.  Poor kiddo.

NOW the real craziness begins.  The big count down to Christmas.  Kiddos have two more days of school.  Shopping and wrapping is finished. 

Have I mentioned before how much I *LOVE LOVE LOVE* Christmas time!!??!

Let’s see…what mundane day to day crap can I bore you with….lol.  This week FLEW by.  I was still recovering from that awful stomach bug the beginning part of the week.  Dealing with a sick kiddo (the same one who projectile vomited while we were out to eat….if we ever go back to that restaurant we’ll consider going in disguise as I’m pretty sure we’ve been blacklisted after THAT…) and then trying to get xmas shopping/details wrapped up.

The good news though is I am DONE- 100% FINI- on Christmas shopping AND most wrapping.  Go me!!!  Hehe…. 

Much to my annoyance the kiddos still have two more days of school to finish out.  Which is retarded if you ask me, but no one did so…. 

For as long as I can remember, even pre-kiddos, I have baked for Christmas.  My kiddos look forward to it.  We normally spend two plus weekends before Christmas every year and dedicate them to baking numerous types of cookies, fudges, and other treats.  It’s my *thing*, it’s what I DO.  Well being sick since the end of November with the-cold-that-never-goes-away and then that god awful stomach bug really, REALLY, puts a damper on my desire for such things.  *SIGH*  I was ready to scrap ALL holiday baking but I changed my mind after all of 5seconds when I saw the fallen, disappointed faces of my children when I shared this with them.  Mommy guilt is the WORST.  So we began baking last night and will continue to do so through the weekend.  I’m going to try to downsize my baking, but OCD ‘me’ doesn’t do that very well.  I’m an ‘all or nothing’ kind of obsessive freak a gal.

The good news though is I am DONE- 100% FINI- on Christmas shopping AND most wrapping.  Go me!!!  Hehe….
